I have gained some weight over the past 2 years…basically a layer of fat all over (gross!)
i can feel the muscle underneath, but it is now covered!
I am planning on eating healthier…but will jogging help?
I am not a fan of the gym…if i start a jogging habit, will my WHOLE body benefit from this?
What parts will benefit muscle wise and which will benefit fat wise.

I have always been into fitness, but have over the last year taken to jogging. Lately it has been giving me a lot of knee pain / stiffness. Perhaps it’s the surface (I’ve been on a treadmill over the winter), or maybe it’s the shoes. What would be some good shoes for someone with flat feet and knee pain?

So I have this MP3 player (it’s a watch) and it has a special set of earphones with a smaller connector than regular earphones have so I can’t get a different set of earphones. So here’s my question…
How do i keep my earphones in while jogging? Any suggestions?
Why do I start sneezing and eyes watering after jogging/walking a mile or two?

I ran a mile today for the first time in a few months. Afterwards, my eyes are watering and nose is running. I start to sneeze but nothing happens. I can’t sneeze. The only other time that this has happended was when I took a PE class in college that required us to run laps around the gym. My eyes would water and nose would run after the class (when we ran inside). BUT tonight, I was jogging outside.
I’m thinking dust and pollen?
Thanks!
Is it normal to be gasping for air as soon as I start jogging?

I’m slightly overweight and I can’t seem to jog 5 minutes without gasping for air. I’ve talked to my doctor and she suggested that I’m most likely cardiovascularly unfit. Because I had just started this whole jogging thing, my body’s not used to it and has trouble bringing oxygen to my muscles. I fear that it might be asthma instead. Is it normal to be gasping for air as soon as I start jogging?
How many minutes a day should I start jogging?

Not miles, but minutes. I currently do not jog at all. I know this sounds bad, but the longest i can jog until I am out of breath is 2 minutes. I start getting tired after 7 to 10 minutes. I am not really an athlete, but I am not a couch potato. Somewhere in between. So my question is, how many minutes should I start jogging for the first time? I NEED to get in shape. I eat healthy, but do not exercise at all. How many would be a good starter for jogging?

Problems with running is that most people RACE their workouts. They leave their races at the track when they jog. They worry too much about hitting a specific pace or thier running shoes which they believe will be best for them. They compete too much with themselves and lose focus on the end result. If you follow my guidelines set above about marathon or triathlon training, you will have the potential to have a good race. You could even qualify for the boston marathon. However, suppose you do everything that is suggested and still don?t have a good race? Well, more then likely what needs to be considered is HOW you race. Did you run a SMART race? Through my experience as a coach and a runner I have developed key components which should help you optimize your racing and get the most out of your running workouts.
PACING: Know your pace
Supposedly you have been marathon training at a certain pace which is HONEST to your potential. You have to make sure you stay the course and try to run your marathon races based on these workouts.
Start out slow and get good running apparel
OK, now this is potentially the most important thing on becoming a SMART RACER! You have to listen to my running tips and start SLOW! You can literally kill your race, regardless of the distance of the race within the first two minutes of the race. If you start too fast, you will probably not get the best of your race. You build too much lactic acid and your HR escalates and it is almost impossible to save your race. You will slow down at some point in the race, either now or later and that is not what you want to do. You want to constantly speed up throughout the whole race! Use your head for the first half, your guts for the rest! Be Smart! It is way better to start TOO SLOW then TOO FAST! You may end up with running injuries.
One thing to help motivate your work outs may be some running music.

A lot of experts say that girls running should be at an even paced race for your best 5k race. Some running accessories may be able to help you with this. Ideally I belief this is almost right. But if you think about this in terms of HR, it doesn?t make sense. A certain pace at the beginning of a run/race will always elicit a lower HR then the same pace later on. Similarly, using the negative pace technique advocated here, the second half of 5k races will be faster than the first. Now you can disregard this with ultramarathon or half marathon as these are running races that are not deemed a sprint.
So what does average mean? It just means that, the average over the whole running routes not what your time is on the average at any given point! You have to remember this. There are some great benefits of jogging but you must do it smartly. You may check out some books that are about running for beginners to get you started. Sometimes these books will help you with your 5k training and starting to get going. Even trail running is a great way to get started running.

I went to the sports center to jog today. And I met my friend’s sister along the way. She told me that I should run and not jog because jogging will cause greater impact on the knee joint. So I wondered how do I run and not jog?
